Opening of a construction site for the projects of water supply and wastewater of city of Delnice and municipalities Fužine and Brod Moravice

FUŽINE, November 13th 2018. – „Water supply and wastewater improvement projects in city of Delnice and municipalities Fužinen and Brod Moravice will contribute to the protection of groundwater and sustainable economic development, as better and more reliable access to public utilities will be provided to end users in the mentioned city and municipalities”, said Boro Tomić, director of company Komunalac-vodoopskrba i odvodnja d.o.o., today at the public presentation of the projects “Water Supply and Wastewater of city of Delnice and municipalities Fužine and Brod Moravice in Fužine.

The event was attended by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Energy, Tomislav Ćorić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds, Velimir Žunac, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Croatia, Ms. Emilija Georgieva, Deputy Mayor of Primorsko-goranska county, Petar Mamula, Director General of Hrvatske vode, Zoran Đuroković, and the mayors of local municipalities and the town of Delnice.

“For three years now, the Republic of Croatia and Switzerland have been successfully cooperating in the implementation of the Swiss-Croatian cooperation program, with 11 projects in the total amount of 300 million HRK. Most of this amount is invested in projects of water-communal infrastructure improvement, “said Ambassador of Switzerland, Emilija Georgieva.

Minister of Environmental Protection and Energy, Tomislav Ćorić, thanked Swiss Ambassador for cooperation and invested funds, stressing that 170 million HRK was invested in water supply and wastewater projects in Delnice, Fužine and Brod Moravice. It is expected that as a result of these projects, 90% of households will be connected to the sewage system by 2020. In addition, in the agglomerations of Delnice, Fužine, Brod Moravice the rate of drinking water loss will drop nfrom 52% in 2015 to 34% in 2020.

The projects are funded by the Swiss-Croatian cooperation program, with a total value of 21.5 million Swiss francs, out of which the Swiss contribution is 85% and the contribution of the Republic of Croatia is 15%. The planned deadline for completion of works is 2021.

The Swiss Confederation established the financial mechanism of the Swiss contribution to the European Union’s enlargement process aimed at the new EU member states in 2006 which represents the expression of Swiss solidarity with Europe in taking over part of the burden related to the activities undertaken to reduce economic and social inequalities in the EU. For the Republic of Croatia, Switzerland has provided funds in the amount of CHF 45 million for the purpose of reducing economic and social inequalities within the enlarged European Union. The Swiss-Croatian cooperation program will be implemented by December 2024.
